卫翀

卫 means warrior. Meanwhile, phonetically it is similar to Skip’s last name Whitney.

翀 means a kind of big bird that dashes high into the sky. Which is also similar to ‘Skip’ in meaning.

Whitney is a visionary curator of innovation in the real esate industry in San Francisco and in China. One of the pioneers in establishing the Life Science and Biotech community in San Francisco, he was also one of the driving forces for San Francisco’s Mission Bay Science and Technology park, a 15-million square-foot mixed-use development project, consisting of UCSF research center.

As a key influencer and advisor in Silicon Valley and China relations, he has worked closely with the venture capital community in bringing US companies in the areas of Life Sciences, Biotech and cleantech into China. He is the founding member of the Bay Area Council, Yangtze Council, China Initiative, on the board of directors of the Bay Area Council and serves as Chairperson for the China San Francisco Biotech subcommittee. In China, Whitney was appointed Strategic Advisor to the President of Fudan University and is a Founding Member of the Fudan School of Innovation in Shanghai.

Passionate about wine, film and giving back to the community, Whitney is an Ambassador-at-large for the California Film Institute, and co-founded the Singapore international Film Festival in 1987. He is also on the Board of Directors of Operation USA, a top-10 NGO relief agency in the US.
